On
October 8th 2014 at 7PM at the Milford Library Art Doyle
and Bob Daniels of the New Haven Mineral Club will be presenting a talk
on the rich geological history of Connecticut focusing on the
formation of minerals and fossils.

million years ago Connecticut was connected to Africa and early
dinosaurs roamed our state. Volcanic activity was
forming West Rock, East Rock, Sleeping Giant and the Higby
Mountain range. The discussion will
include examples of mineral specimens and fossils which can be found in
various localities throughout Connecticut. They will also
discuss an upcoming field trip to Case Quarry in Portland Connecticut
and how interested participants may attend.

to the study of meteorites - using a classroom environment
format. Through discussions, demonstrations, and photographs that
you will be able to “take home and keep” Dan will discuss the science
behind the study of meteorites - from a physics perspective. He
will also discuss the various types of meteorites, and provide you with
the opportunity to see “up front and close” some exceptional “complete
meteorites” from his collection.
Dan Record is a retired physics instructor who has spent over 40 years conducting lectures and seminars, throughout the United States, relative to the Apollo missions to the Moon; the Apollo Lunar Sample Collection; the acquisition and study of meteorites; and the past and future exploration of Mars. Along the way, Dan’s teaching accomplishments have been recognized by several honors including the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching - from President Reagan - and the National Educator Award. |
