QUARRY HILL AND CRYSOBERYL KNOLL
The Minerals and Quarries of Haddam, Connecticut  2016
By   Harold Moritz

In 1838, a traveler wrote that Haddam is, "a place known all over civilized earth, for the richness and variety of its mineral productions"!

A bold statement indeed, and in many ways it only got better.  To show how its rocks and minerals made this little town so famous, this presentation explores 19th & 20th century literature, maps and personalities and uses modern maps and photos of quarries, stone, and fabulous mineral specimens, to bring them to life.

Well-known and recently documented localities are highlighted, as are new finds from some long-dormant but reinvigorated places.

Find out where the first chrysoberyl was found and solve the

200-year-old mystery of the first columbite locality.  How are Haddam rocks connected to the infamous John Brown raid?  And what the heck is the "Allen Vein" and why was it so important?

Copies of a new, 2 x 3 ft map of Haddam Quarries and Localities, will be available for purchase for $20 each.
